The Royal Canadian Mint Celebrates the Great Trail with a New Silver Coin

The Royal Canadian Mint launched a rectangular silver coin to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Great Trail, marking the occasion in Saskatoon in August on the Meewasin Trail near the South Saskatchewan River.

The coin was designed by Canadian artist Steve Hepburn and depicts, in 99.99 percent pure silver, and in colour, two hikers setting out to take on the Trail in all its splendour: on agricultural land, via a rural cycling trail, through wetlands in a canoe and cross-country skiing.

Dakota Whitecap First Nation Councillor Dwayne Eagle, Saskatchewan Deputy Premier Don Morgan, Trans Canada Trail President & CEO Deborah Apps, and Royal Canadian Mint Board of Directors Chair Carman Joynt were all present at the commemorative event.

“It is such an honour for Trans Canada Trail to have a coin commemorating Canada’s Great Trail,” says Apps. “This is truly a celebration of our volunteers and donors who have worked tirelessly to connect the Trail across Canada, making this 25-year dream a reality.”

The limited edition coin can be purchased here.
