The Great Trail Cross-Canada Connection Celebration
We’re Throwing a Huge Party at Major’s Hill Park — and You’re Invited!
After 25 years, a major Canadian dream is coming true. The Great Trail — a multiuse recreational trail stretching over 24,000 kilometres — will finally be connected. It’s the longest trail system in the world, and it’s in our backyard. This is Canada’s path.
To celebrate this momentous collective achievement, over 200 different events will be taking place across the country on August 26, including a massive party in the nation’s capital. The Ottawa event will feature all the requisite ingredients for a great outdoor party: live music, food trucks, free swag and — cross your fingers — sunny skies.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Canada’s Parliament, and hosted by the affable Valerie Pringle (Co-Chair, Trans Canada Trail Foundation), the party will be a large-scale celebration of the full connection of Canada’s national trail.
Come for the music!
From throat singing to gospel choir, Métis dancing to electronic dance music, the performers will reflect the diversity of our multicultural nation. The event culminates with a set from Steven Page (You know him a the co-founder and former lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies).
For the full roster, see the event poster below.
Stay for the perks!
Besides the stellar live music, we’re thrilled that a variety of companies and organizations that support The Great Trail will be in the park with us. We’ll have our own tent station where you can nab some free swag and complimentary CLIF bars, and you can participate in the colouring of a large-scale map of the Trail. We’ll also have staff on-site to answer any Trail-related questions.
Our friends at KEEN Footwear will have interactive displays — ideal for finding the right shoes for a trek! The Hudson’s Bay Company canoe will be there, providing the perfect backdrop for an Instagram photo. Scouts Canada will have representatives to entertain the kids with interactive games, while educating them about trail safety.
See you there!
This is a “BYOLC” (bring your own lawn chair) party. We also advise bringing sunscreen, a camera and a water bottle, which you can fill at our water stations.
Tell your friends and family. See you there.
