Treasure Hunt 2020

We are currently assessing the situation and are not in a position to announce a launch date. But, as you can imagine, there’s a strong possibility that we won’t be able to launch it this year.

However, we’re working on a lighter version, that will get folks out on the Trail that involves physical distancing and virtual caches – timing, most likely in the fall.

We’re  pleased to inform you that we’ll be hosting a new and improved version of The Great Trail Treasure Hunt in 2020!

While physical boxes were exciting and fun to photograph, they present challenges with sustainability, logistics, keeping location information up-to-date, and risks of being lost or misplaced.

So this year, we’re going with virtual caches and we will be partnering with the world’s leading geocaching specialist to bring this exciting new take to this cross-Canada contest.

Would you be interested in being part of this initiative this year?

Last year’s Treasure Hunt proved to be one of the biggest and most exciting events on The Great Trail to date, and generated national attention for many sections of the Trail across Canada. Almost 8,000 entries were received throughout the contest, and it garnered more than 1.8 million impressions online and in the media!

It’s a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on your section of the Trail, as well as the amazing work that volunteers like you do on a regular basis.

You are a valued member of our network, and we’d love it if you could join us for this great national event.

Participating Trail groups will benefit from the following:

  • Increased visibility through potential mentions in the media, on our website, in our newsletter and on social media
  • Increase in the number of people enjoying and learning about your Trail section
  • A chance to engage your community and volunteers with the creation of virtual caches along the Trail

Creating virtual caches is as simple as providing us with a few GPS coordinates and photos of the cache locations, along with a few descriptive points about each location.

Please confirm your desire to participate by emailing TCT’s Communications and Marketing at communications@tctrail.ca by March 20, 2020.  We will be in touch with participating Trail groups with a step-by-step guide on how to create virtual caches within the coming weeks.

Thank you
